Call for Papers and Displays of Talent
2012 Topic “Youth: Out of Many People Comes One”
Open to all students in Middle School, High School, Undergraduate, Community Youth Groups and Mentoring Scholars
The driving force in ASCAC’s work is the international and spiritual deployment of knowledge that will advance and enhance the descendents of Africa throughout the diasporas. The 9th annual Akoben Youth Symposium hopes to attract a variety of research papers from of academic disciplines of anthropology, sociology, urban studies, history, political science and public health. We explicitly invite our junior scholars as well as more advanced academia to submit their innovative research papers on the following four commissions Creative Productions, Health and Spiritual Development, Education and Research.
The objective of this symposium is to create opportunities to explore the complex ways in which African identities are constructed, expressed and represented.
ASCAC seeks a broad range of papers representing diverse methodological approaches.
General Proposal Guidelines:
1. Completed Proposal Coversheet Form
2. Paper Title
3. Abstract - This brief description of the paper should not exceed 500 words
4. Biographical paragraph - Not to exceed 200 words
5. Mailing and e-mail addresses
6. Please indicate audio visual or equipment needs, if any
A Good Paper Will...
1. Consider a significant problem;
2. Propose an interesting, compelling solution;
3. Demonstrate the practicality and benefits of the solution;
4. Draw appropriate conclusions;
5. Clearly describe what the authors have done; and
All selected papers will be presented orally at the conference and posted on our website.
Proposal Review Procedure:
The ASCAC Youth Symposium Committee, chaired by Dr. Annette Blake, is charged with reviewing proposals submitted within the stated guidelines. Proposals representing the Youth Symposium theme will receive priority consideration. The proposal abstract must reflect a high quality of scholarship and originality. A list of sources and a concise topical statement and primary argument are integral to a strong proposal. Proposals will be reviewed and ranked by the Program Committee. The committee will seek to insure a representation of the diverse geographic and methodological approaches, thus, a broad range of papers will be considered.
